Letter from Asbury W. Quillian Commissioner, Deparment of Motor Vehicles 2300 West Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia David A. Carmichael
Dear Mr. Carmichael: Thank you for your most recent letter requesting the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to remove the social security numbers (SSN) the driving records for you and your wife. I appreciate the opportunity to respond. As I have advised in previous letters, DMV cannot remove your SSNs unless we are provided with a statement from the Social Security Administration or a court order stating that the SSN does not belong to you, nor has ever been associated with you. You do have the option of obtaining a driver's license with a DMV-issued number appearing on the license document; however, your SSN must remain on our automated records until we have received the appropriate documentaion from the Social Security Administration. I regret that my response cannot be
more favorable,
but am glad to provide you with this information.
Sincerely,
Asbury W. Quillian AWQ:jmd (gramatical errors are include verbatim)
