Pierce R. Homer Secretary of Transportation c/o Re: RELIGIOUS ACCOMMODATION REQUEST Ref: (1) Pierce R. Homer July 23, 2007 Letter, Refusal To Apply Code of Va. §57-1, §57-2, §57-2.02; Constitution, Article I, §16 To Religious Accommodation Request. (2) Religious Accommodation Request Letter From David Alan Carmichael To Tim Kaine, (3) Religious Accommodation Request Letter From David Alan Carmichael To Tim Kaine, May 23, 2007 Mr. Pierce R. Homer, In your letter, reference (1), you acknowledge that I requested “a religious exemption for yourself, your wife, and your children from the statutory requirement that a social security number be provided on all applications for driver’s licenses.” You correctly characterized the nature of the request but not the object of the request. The request was not only that we not have to identify with a Social Security Number, but that there not ever be a SSN associate with our driver’s records since the SSN is the number of the beast, and the driver’s license is quickly becoming the de facto national database/identification card. You stated, “At present, there is no legal basis upon which to exempt an applicant from compliance with this requirement.” I happen to know that you have issued Driver’s license to people within the last year without having them identify with social security numbers (SSN) on the application, nor have you adhered a SSN to their records against their will. On what “legal basis” did you exempt them? Why is it particularly that you deny our religious accommodation request when you allow the same accommodation for non-religious reasons? I cannot see how you can rationally say that there “no legal basis upon which to exempt an applicant from compliance with this requirement.” Please read the Virginia Constitution, Article I. Particularly read the Virginia Constitution, Article I, Section 16. Read the Code of Therefore, if there is a legal basis for an exemption, do you have the authority to grant it? If there is a legal basis for and exemption, who would have the authority to grant it if not you? Are you obligated by your office to make an oath to support and defend the Constitution of Virginia and the Constitution of the Please be advised, we do not have the right to identify ourselves with a SSN. It is against the law for us to do so. The penalty for us is eternal damnation. In my rational mind, I cannot conceive how the administrative convenience of an SSN could be justified in anybody else’s rational mind to be such a necessary convenience to contravene bona fide duties and obligations of religion. Sincerely, _________________________________ Cc: Governor Tim Kaine file |
